Terms of use

The software
Casefile is free, open-source software released under the MIT license. You may use, copy, modify and distribute it under that license. The license text governs; this page does not add restrictions to it.
No hosted service
The project provides the software, not a service. You run Casefile on your own machine or server and you are the operator of your installation. You are responsible for it: its security, access control, updates, backups, and for the data and people you put into it.
Your content
What you and your agents write into Casefile stays yours and stays on your installation. The authors claim no rights to it and do not receive it. Do not store content you have no right to store, and do not store secrets in task text unless you accept the risk.
Acceptable use
Do not use Casefile to break the law or to harm others. If you operate an installation for other people, you are their service provider and must tell them how you handle their data.
Third parties
Agents, MCP clients, AI providers, GitHub, Docker and other services you use with Casefile have their own terms. The authors are not responsible for them.
No warranty
The software is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. In no event shall the authors be liable for any claim, damages or other liability arising from the software or its use. Back up your data; Casefile is a record-keeping tool and is not a substitute for your own backups.
Support
Support is provided on a voluntary basis through GitHub Issues, with no guaranteed response.
Changes
These terms may change; changes are published in the repository history with the date above. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
